Running & Blogging for joy…

Well, this year has been eventful to say the least. I know I have not shown this blog much love of late. All I can use as an excuse is that I have been very busy working on edits and writing. Life has shaken me, tipped me over and given another shake. But I am fighting back. I am determined to keep to my watch-phrase of: Dancing for Joy.

These last few weeks have seen some beautiful weather. Completely settled now in the new house and enjoying the new area where I live. Jazz (the Papillon pooch) and I are taking daily walks which is turning into daily runs in the morning and walks at night.

This morning I went out on my run and just felt completely free. I have always been a natural runner and for me running is joyful. I love the feel of my lungs filling up with fresh oxygen and I can feel the energy in my muscles. I even like it when I feel that slow burn when you know your muscles are getting a workout.

I love being active. I find that if I am not active and don’t get out into the fresh air at least for 30 minutes every day, my spirits lag and my mind feels stagnant. I find that it is even more important being an at-home full-time writer. It is so easy to get stuck in front of the computer screen when you are riding a wave of fresh inspiration. But it is so important to get off your butt and get outside. Listen to the birds, hear the wind in the trees, watch the tide come in, watch the yachts set sail. Thankfully I live in a place where I can experience all of this.

Another plus about running is that you save on gym fees. I never get quite the same rush running on a treadmill as I do running outdoors. It is also handy if you don’t have a gym near you. If running is not your thing though, go for a walk. You can start off with a stroll and then work it up to speed-walking which will give you a great workout. But whatever you do, take time to get outside in the fresh air. Let nature re-invigorate you.

What exercise do you do to stay fit and happy?

Are you a runner or are you a walker?

Something else that has made me happy this month is that I have started a new blog which I co-author with my BFF of 21 years. I am really excited to be co-blogging with my BFF. It is fun to dip my toe into a co-authored blog.  The blog is called Hocus Pocus. This is the tagline:

We are two 30 something BFFs who have been friends for 21 years. Although life/love has taken us to different continents and down different paths one thing has remained: the foundation of our friendship. This blog is about our journey’s both individual and as BFFs in Life, Love and Friendship. There will be drama, there will be giggles.

We would love you to join us on our blogging journey. :)

Together we will blog about what it means to be real women chasing our dreams and making it in the real world. So think Sex and the City in the real world. That’s us…Life, Love, Work, Fashion and Friendship in the City. Everyone needs a little Hocus Pocus in their lives.

Feel free to follow our sex-and-the-city style adventures…She is the Charlotte York to my Carrie Bradshaw. We also have a twitter feed which you can add to.

Remember joy is found when you are doing things you love. Make sure you do something this week that makes you happy.

New Blog | New Year | Looking Towards JOY in 2012

Welcome to my New Blog for 2012!

If you came here from one of my other blogs,

you will see that this blog has a very different focus.

My other blogs focus and will continue to focus on my life as a writer.

This blog is going to be a more personal journey.

As always creativity is the focus of my life…

It is my fuel and my nourishment both as an individual and as a writer & poet.

This blog is about a search for more creativity, gratitude, and a focus on living a more inspired life

as an artist, a writer, a creative individual and a born again Christian.

I will be using both art, crafts and camera and any other creative medium to journal my journey.

Anything shared or journalled in this journey are my own thoughts, my own emotions and my own inspirations. This is a personal blog shared publicly in the tone of inspiration.

For the last 2 years I have searched out a Word of the Year instead of making New Year’s Resolutions. One of my friends recently posted that one should not make Resolutions but Goals. For me the Word of the Year is a Focus for the whole year. It is a word or a set of words that combines both goal, focus, commitment  and promise for the New Year.

I was first inspired to find a Word of Purpose by Elizabeth Gilbert in her bestselling memoir, Eat, Pray, Love. I read the book at a time in my life when I was at the lowest level of despair and sadness. The book resonated with me in an instant. I believe that there are certain books that come into your life at just the right moment and for me then it was Eat,Pray,Love.

So this is my third year of finding a Word or Words of the Year.

  • In 2010 – My words were: BELIEVE and RENEW
  • In 2011 – My words were: POSSIBILITY and SEEK

In 2012 – My words are…

CHOOSE
DANCE
JOY

Or to put in a sentence ~ I CHOOSE to DANCE for JOY in 2012

Another thing I do to start the New Year off is to create a Vision Board. I usually incorporate my Words of the Year into the Vision Board. I do two types of Vision Boards: One a digital version that I use as my Desktop Background on my laptop and the other a physical Vision Board that I hang in my office.

This year though I have also signed up to a project called Book of Days 2012. This is an art journalling project where you don’t just journal thoughts and memories but you use arts and crafts to better journal your year of 365 days. So I have combined my Words of the Year, my Vision Board and my Book of Days into one project that I will be journalling both in this blog and in a physical art journal which I am still creating.

So here is a preview of my Vision Board for this year…which will also be the cover for my Book of Days.
